Contrast Radiography (Barium Contrast Study)

  • Retrograde administration of positive, negative or a combination of contrast agents into the large intestine provides information about the intestinal lumen. Typical contrast studies performed at WestVet include myelogram, fistulogram, cystourethrogram, intravenous pyelogram, and upper GI barium series.

For Investigation of:-

  • Suspected large intestinal obstruction, eg colonic mass / foreign body
  • Suspected intussusception Intussusception.
  • Position of colon in relation to caudal abdomen/pelvic masses.
This procedure is a hole day procedure if we have to check full GI tract depending upon recommendations of vets. The patient should be brought empty stomach with overnight fasting. We advise to take prior appointment for Contrast radiography.
